The Frozen Ground - Förhandstitt

 

Baserad på en sann historia, är "The Frozen Ground" en historia som hände i Alaska 1983. Vi anländer sent till historien som detektiven Jack Halcombe (Cage) som redan är övertygade om att Robert Hansen (Cusack) är ansvariga för mordet på tre kvinnor, vars kvarlevor upptäcks i öknen. Men det är först när prostituerad Cindy Paulson (Hudgens) påstår sig ha flytt Hansen som Halcombe tror han kan bygga ett fall. Men Hansen är en gift man med barn och han är omtyckt i samhället. Dessutom har han ett alibi för natten i fråga. Hansen tvingas lägga undan hans metodiska tillvägagångssätt för att kidnappa Cindy igen, den enda person som kan fingra honom.


Cusack, letar efter en lämplig roll eftersom hans älskvärda romantiska förlorare shtick av High Fidelity är en uppenbarelse som Hansen, han använder sin "everyman" karisma innan subtilt vända obehagligt att komma under huden på den seriemördare som skulle våldta och tortera sina offer, sen kasta dem i ödemarken, släppa loss dem och sedan jaga dem ıgen. Hudgens är förvånande också, med detta och "Spring Breakers"  ser hon ut som att göra sitt bästa för att blı av med den söta Disney bilden och hon drar av den svärande hora utan att se ut som hon försöker alltför hårt. Även Cage är fastspända. Medan debut regissören Scott Walker kunde ha påmint oss om Hansens vanlig kille persona genom att ge oss några fler familjemedlemmar scener, och kanske har skapat ett litet mysterium om vem mördaren är (vi höra inne fem minuter), hans kalla, mörka grafik av Alaskas vildmark snyggt kontrast med gränserna för Anchorage s sjaskiga bakgatorna, och både ge filmen en haunting atmosfär. Allt detta fungerar.

Men det är när Hansen bestämmer sig för att jaga Paulson, sysselsätter omkring skändlig Anchorage element för att omedvetet hjälpa honom, det gör så att "The Frozen Ground" slutar fungera, det är en katastrofal avvikelse från fallet verkliga händelser och filmen återhämtar sig inte. Vad var fram till dess en ganska tjusig thriller, tar en vänstersväng till handling territorium med en smidig chase sekvens.
Cusack, Cage och Hudgens är en behandling i denna isande thriller som bara har sig själv att skylla om det inte är en framgång.
